President' Message - Giselle Carson "Bloom where you're planted". This was Mayor Peyton's message at the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast. I encourage you all to embrace this message and to become involved in the Hispanic Chamber and our community so that we can make Jacksonville a place where diverse businesses and cultures thrive, and where families prosper and children can grow up with every chance of success.
I encourage you to follow the lead of BlueCross BlueShield of Florida and CSX and become one of our trustees. Commit to use some of your company's resources to support diversity programs. Every 7.5 seconds a baby boomer turns 50 years old and by 2050 Hispanics will be one-fourth of the total U.S. population. Join us in building and developing your future workforce. Visit our website (under membership) for additional information about becoming a Hispanic Chamber trustee.
Be a part of the solution, to fight crime and violence. Hispanics have suffered from crime targeted at them, and are particularly vulnerable as a result of language and cultural barriers. To make matters worse, when victimized, some are too afraid to report the crimes carried out against them. I have been the victim of crime in our city and know of the anxiety, frustration, and vulnerability associated with it. Let's join The Jacksonville Journey, a comprehensive community-wide initiative to fight crime and violence. Let's all be more vigilant and caring towards each other as a first step in this battle. Please visit coj.net, then click on the Jacksonville Journ

As we team up to improve our city, let's also Enjoy Super Bowl XLII and Valentine's Day!

First Coast Commuter Services - Making it Easier to Get to Work
The Commuter Services/car and vanpool program in five Northeast Florida counties makes getting to and from the job easier and very cost effective; and benefits our environment. Here is how it works.
Carpools are for two to four people who share a general trip route and work schedule. You take turns driving your own cars or a single driver can be reimbursed for trips. The program can help you find fellow riders through a matching rideshare service.
A vanpool is a group of commuters (usually 7-15) who ride to and from work in either an employer or employee-sponsored van, available for lease through a national leader in vanpool programs. The Commuter Services offers a turnkey program including the vans, maintenance, insurance, rider matching and employee communications materials. For both a carpool and vanpool, participants qualify for the Emergency Ride Home program so if an emergency arises and you need to get home quickly, a taxi ride will be provided.
For anyone interested in learning more about the ease and savings of car and vanpools and how it helps the environment, please access www.cooltopool.com or telephone 904-306-7500. |
