President's Message - Giselle Carson
g_carsonCinco de Mayo is a date of great significance for the Mexican and Chicano communities. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla and although the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" has come to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and pride.

I invite you to come and celebrate with us this important event at our networking event on May 8.  As we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I encourage Hispanics in North East Florida to unite and work together for the betterment of our community. I am very proud of the diversity of our membership. We have members from Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela, USA, among others, and I expect that our membership will continue to grow and diversify with the remarkable effort of our membership committee which include Guillermo Mora, Nelson Estepa, M aria B enton and Martha Vidal.

As a benefit to our members and community, the FCHCC is supporting a seminar on How to become a U.S. Citizen.  The seminar will provide information about the process, right and benefits of becoming a U.S. Citizen. You must be a legal permanent resident to benefit from attending. See additional information in this newsletter.

Let's continue to cultivate and celebrate our heritage while benefiting and contributing to the rights and obligations that America provide us! . . . and to all the Mothers . . . Happy Mother's Day!
