President's Message - Giselle Carson
Allow me to take a moment to thank you! A Swedish proverb says: "Friendship doubles our joy and divides our grief." Despite the economic hardships, the FCHCC because of the professional and dedicated work of its board, executive assistants, committees, members, friends, and volunteers, has continued to grow and strengthen. I am very grateful to all of you for your friendship and enthusiasm and thank you for it!
Our growth and strength was clearly reflected at the June Multicultural Event hosted by CSX
where more than 200 participants shared connections, learned about
business opportunities and the importance of the upcoming U.S. Census.
To all of those that contributed to this remarkable event, my
appreciation and gratitude!
Our July networking event will be hosted by Mayo Clinic, and I look forward to another fantastic event, this time with a Healthy Theme! To a Healthy and Happy Summer! Giselle
Board Member's Message - Leon Carrero
I was born in Venezuela and came to the US in 1982. Approximately 18 years ago I moved to Jacksonville. I have been a member of the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (formerly Hispanic Chamber of Commerce) for approximately eight years and served as president from 2005 to 2007. I am also a member of the Rotary Club of Southpoint, the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board, and a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2003. I strongly believe in community involvement and helping those less fortunate by promoting education and providing children, at an early age, with all the necessary tools to grow into responsible adults. That is why I support the Achieving the Dream Scholarship being sponsored by the FCHCC and the MHAB in October. I have been married for 13 years to Elizabeth and have 2 sons. I work for Aerostar Environmental Services, Inc., an engineering and environmental consulting company headquartered here in Jacksonville. At AEROSTAR, we provide Industrial Hygiene, Mold, Asbestos, and remediation of contaminated properties throughout the Southeastern U.S. We, as Hispanics, phase many challenges when coming to the U.S. with language and lack of good high level education, in my opinion, as the main obstacles to succeed. This is a great country with opportunities for all and the sooner we remove those obstacles we will all achieve success for us and future generations. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve this great community. Leon Carrero
