President's Message - Giselle Carson
America celebrates the culture and traditions of Hispanics from September 15 to October 15! And the FCHCC joins in these festivities with two primary events, a unique networking event on September 8 and a moving Achieving the Dream Scholarship Event on October 23. We celebrate and support the contributions of Hispanics, which as of July 1, 2008, constituted $46.9 million of the U.S. population. Accolades to Best Buy of Arlington and its Manager, Gary Griffin and Area Manager, Juan Lorenzo! At our August meeting, at Best Buy of Arlington, we learned about the multiple initiatives that this Best Buy store is doing to attract and support the Hispanic community. A significant number of their new hires are Hispanics, staff, and managers are learning to speak Spanish to better communicate with customers and managers are making a concerted effort to support the FCHCC's mission to unite Hispanics and improve their businesses and quality of life. I congratulate Best Buy of Arlington for its support and contributions to Hispanics! Diversity and Inclusion is also a primary goal of the sponsor of our September Multicultural Networking event, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. This event will provide another opportunity for members of our multicultural chambers to come together, network, and share experiences. Additional information on this remarkable event is available on this newsletter. I hope to see you there! Happy Labor Day and Cheers to an outstanding Hispanic Heritage Month!

Board Member's Message - Becky Vasko
My name is Becky Vasko. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and moved to Jacksonville a little over 13 years ago. After completing my Bachelor's Degree of Finance at University of South Florida, I began working in the insurance industry. Through hard work and dedication, I have continued to work in the insurance industry and more specifically with State Farm, where I have held several positions including Claims Management and Agency Recruiting. Through my position with State Farm, I was introduced to several wonderful people who belonged to the FCHCC and decided to join FCHCC. The Board and its members have afforded me an awesome opportunity to get involved, develop community relationships, and network in a social as well as professional environment.
There are several ways to get involved with FCHCC. One way is our upcoming Multicultural Networking event on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Blue Cross Blue Shield. This is our final Multicultural Networking Mixer for 2009 and you DO NOT want to miss! This is a great opportunity to meet and network with new faces, catch up with old friends and learn what is going on in your community. In light of what is going on in our economy, now more than ever it is crucial to build relationships and be customer focused when operating a business. Don't forget to register early - we are expecting a big crowd!
Another way to get involved is through our different committees within FCHCC. As our chamber continues to grow, we need assistance in all areas including: outreach, membership, programs, education, and many more. As you can see there is something for everyone and all levels of commitment are welcome.
As we continue through the end of 2009, I encourage everyone to get involved as there is a place for you here at FCHCC!
