President's Message - Betzy Santiago
Network, Be Informed and Grow "To thine own self be true", William Shakespeare. Take some time this month to focus on the things that make you unique - where do your strengths lie, what makes you successful, what separates you from the competition? This month we are focusing on social media and technology. This is a great way for you to accentuate your strengths and let your skills speak for themselves.
FCHCC would like to extend a warm thank you to Prudential for hosting our First Multicultural Mixer for 2010 as well as to Raymond Riddick and Sylvester Thomas for their leadership in making this happen. Following a short presentation, we had plenty of time to do what we love to do - network. In March we also held our second Chamber Chats - a well organized, intimate way to foster stronger relationships between members. Be on the lookout for other such events where you can meet a new partner that can help strengthen your businesses.
Board Member's Message - Ed Perez
2009 was an awesome year for the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as we nearly doubled our membership, truly impacted our community and the future of our youth - but the best is yet to take place during 2010.
My name is Ed Perez. My family and I arrived on the shores of this great country with nothing but a dream from our 'patria - Cuba". What a blessing it is to be able to dream and accomplish our goals, to be able to fulfill our spiritual needs and to be able to debate relevant topics without the fear of tyranny and retribution. We all are truly blessed. However, with opportunity comes the responsibility to be the best we can be, to reach out and help our brothers and sisters in our community and those less fortunate around the world.
I was blessed to have received a great education and been able to leverage my training in Business Administration, Economics, Psychology and have experienced a successful career. I've worked for CSX Corporation nearly 37 years in numerous management roles. Currently, I'm the Director in the Technology organization. I've worked hard, however, I would not have accomplished what I have without the guidance and assistance of many folks I have met throughout my career.
I've been a FCHCC board member for three years and am proud of our accomplishments and excited about our future opportunities. FCHCC provides a great avenue to network, develop our skill sets and as important, to reach out to our community and bring about long term positive change. Come join us and leverage the opportunities available, benefit from the multicultural experiences of our membership and be part of the changes the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is committed to bring to Northeast Florida!
I am looking forward to working with each one of you. As noted by Gandhi: "Let's be the change we wish to see in the world."
See you soon, Ed
